Kay's Bio

Kay received her Fashion Design degree from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  After moving to Michigan with her husband and two children, she began working for a Birmingham designer as a patternmaker.  A few years later Kay decided to start her own home-based business creating custom-designed clothing for private clients and offering alteration services for both men and women.  Kay was contacted by several local bridal shops to do alterations for them and eventually her business grew to include brides and bridesmaids.  She gained a reputation for her excellent workmanship and business grew by word of mouth.

Several years ago Kay launched a program very special to her – Coats & Totes for a Cure.  It's a line of one-of-a-kind coats, vests, totes and bags uniquely pieced together using fabrics from all over the world.  She has collected these remnants throughout her years of designing.  What makes this line so special is that a portion of the proceeds is donated to Breast Cancer Research.  Kay is a breast cancer survivor, as is her sister.  They lost their mother to this disease in 1986.  Kay says, “It was my mother who initially taught me the love of fabrics and creating with them.  I think she would be pleased!”
